Choreographer Alma Esperanza Cunningham brings her powerful dance company to the stage to present a series of stark and stirring imagistic dances that explore the complex nature of time, space and the emotional body. Taken from a developing full length work titled Shiver, these dances are inspired by photographic images of competition, war and loss. Cunningham blends her own unique movement style with a precise gestural language taken from photographs to merge the space between form and expression. AECM will present 3 new works:

Need, a meditative duet that explores the topography of a tense and fragile relationship;

More, set to the music of Ravel’s Bolero, literally strings together daily activities to illustrate the cumulative and unconscious impact of our actions on a local and global scale

Loss, a stripped down duet that uses highly physical partnering and crisp held images to investigate memory as an emotional place in time.

All of these scenes thread together to comprise 30 minutes of provocative dance that will be both familiar and surprising.
