| Playwright, poet, actor, director, and founding member of the Pomo Afro Homos, Brian Freeman’s most recent work, Here and There, is a collaboration with Berkeley Repertory Theatre artistic director Tony Taccone. Here and There explores the politics of HIV/AIDS in South Africa through a work focusing on the life of Simon Tseko Nkoli, an international gay rights activist, and founder of the Township AIDS Project.
“Brian Freeman holds a very special place in the gay African American theater community,” said Thomas R. Simpson, AfroSolo Artistic Director. “It is so appropriate to have him present during the Festival a staged reading from a work that shines a spot light on the intersection of history, politics, AIDS and the African experience.”
