Korea's latest young and rising prodigy of the Kayageum (or Gayageum-the Korean 12 string zither) makes her Bay Area debut at the Asian Art Museum's Samsung Hall. She follows in the famous foot steps of Kayageum master Byung Ki-Hwang who performed the opening night concert of the SF International Festival in May 2005.

Mordake is being created by a team led by San Francisco composer Erling Wold and German computer engineer and sound designer Frieder Weiß along with tenor John Duykers, director Melissa "Missy" Weaver and libretto by poet Douglas Kearney. The plot line is inspired by the strange case of Edward Mordake and his 'devil twin' - a man tormented by a voice coming from a woman's face on the back of his head.

Melody of China will present a concert of new and Chinese traditional music that both celebrates the past and points to a new direction in modern culture. The evening will include a new commissioned piece from renowned electro-acoustic composer, Carl Stone featuring the erhu, a Chinese bowed, single string instrument and the sheng, or mouth organ.

Special guest musicians will include Dan Reiter on cello.

The Festival's closing performance on Sunday June 8 will feature the return, after five years, of the great Cuban pianist at Yerba Buena Gardens presented free of charge to the public.
