Clinic is a solo dance theatre performance created and performed by Byb Chanel Bibene, the company's artistic director. Clinic explores how racism, greed and power separate people while simultaneously denying basic human necessities. While at times a self-reflective piece, Clinic delves into universal concerns while calling for Mbongui to heal our wounds. In traditional Congolese culture, Mbongui is the community square, serving many societal needs: problems are solved, history is passed down and guests are shown hospitality.

ARTIST INFORMATION

San Francisco International Festival goers will be the first American audience to witness the U.S. premiere of Studio Rue Dance's, Clinic, a solo dance theatre performance created and performed by Byb Chanel Bibene, the company's artistic director.

While Mbongui might be unachievable on a global scale, Clinic takes us on a journey of understanding, inviting us to meditate on the state of affairs today instead of numbly hearing about events through the news and not letting them affect our feelings. Clinic doesn't allow its audience to lose itself in the beauty of the dance, instead asking us to reacquaint our bodies with our emotions.
