Zero Gravity Arts Consortium

Arts, Culture, & Humanity in Space Exploration
Video Series Presented by The Zero Gravity Arts Consortium.

In what SFIAF hopes to be a developing relationship in live zero-gravity performances in future years, the organization is please to introduce the Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (ZGAC) to its audience. The program screening, curated by Zero Gravity founder Frank Pietronigro, will feature arts, culture, humanities, space science and engineering themed 'video-shorts' showcasing collaborations created by international space artists, institutions and organizations working within the interdisciplinary nexus of culture and space exploration to include fictional and non-fictional works. The screenings will be complimented by guest appearances and brief presentations by space artists, videographers, space scientists and engineers.

Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (ZGAC) is an international space arts organization dedicated to fostering greater access for artists to space flight technology and zero gravity space through the creation of international partnerships with space agencies, space industry entrepreneurs, arts and science organizations and leading universities. Founded in 2003 by Laura Knott, Frank Pietronigro, and Lorelei Lisowsky. ZGAC is the first organization of its kind based in the United States that facilitates parabolic flight projects and conferences that help the international effort to set the stage for teams of artists to have permanent access to work on space transportation systems, including the International Space Station. ZGAC supports arts, humanities and culture in space education, international outreach and conference programs that are organized as ways for artists from around the world to affiliate with ZGAC and experience the possibilities of collaborating with space flight technologists.

ZGAC has been responsible for establishing the Space Arts Development Fund in collaboration with the STUDIO For Creative Inquiry at the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University and the National Space Society and inaugurated the Leonardo Da Vinci Space Arts Awards. It created and contributed to international space arts conferences, exhibitions, symposia and multiple Space Art Tracks at International Space Development Conferences. ZGAC also instigates historic arts, space science and engineering collaborations with astronauts living aboard the International Space Station.

Frank Pietronigro is an interdisciplinary artist, educator and author. He is the first American artist to create "drift paintings" where his body floated in zero gravity aboard NASA's KC135 turbojet. He is Co-Founder and Project Director of the Zero Gravity Arts Consortium and is an Associate Fellow at the STUDIO For Creative Inquiry, College of Fine Arts, Carnegie Mellon University. Frank Pietronigro produced Art in the Park, Intergeneration: Building Queer Community Across the Ages Through the Arts and Directed the San Francisco Arts Commission Arts Festival. He received his BFA96 in Interdisciplinary Arts, from the San Francisco Art Institute.
