Tableaux features five women inquiring about confinement and freedom, while finding themselves constrained on an island of boxes, trapped by the constrictions of society and themselves. Faced with numerous challenges set before them the artists collectively harness their physicality to the extreme overcoming these limitations by empowering and igniting their resourcefulness.
Aloysia Gavre - Troupe Vertigo Founding Artistic Director
Aloysia co-founded both Troupe Vertigo and Cirque School in Los Angeles in 2009 after 22 years of touring internationally with the Pickle Family Circus, Cirque du Soleil, and Symphonies at the Sydney Opera House and the Kennedy Center. Her passion and knowledge for the circus arts has led her to a career as a director, choreographer and educator including Cirque-Cracker with Phoenix Symphony, Cirque Broadway with Baltimore Symphony, Cirque Mechanics and the films Water for Elephants and Pitch Perfect 2. She has been recognized in Dance Teacher Magazine and speaking engagements with TED-X, Center Theater Group, Directors Lab, Chicago Circus Festival, AYCO and VIVA Fest Las Vegas.
Rex Camphuis -Troupe Vertigo Founding Executive Director
Rex Co-directed and was the Musical Director of the Pickle Circus Production Birdhouse Factory in 2004. Directing Credits with Aloysia Gavre: Pickle Circus Productions High Water Radio, Elevation 63 andE63: Vertigo. In 2009 Rex and Aloysia co-founded CIRQUE SCHOOL in Hollywood, CA which also serves as the home of TROUPE VERTIGO. Rex was a Producer for both Lorenzo Pisoni’s documentary film the Circus Kid about life in The Pickle Family Circus and the award- winning Horton Foote short film ONE ARMED MAN directed by Tim Guinee.
Company HistoryTroupe Vertigo Circus-Dance-Theater was founded in 2009 by wife and husband team Aloysia Gavre and Rex Camphuis in Los Angeles along with their companion company Cirque School. Their shows ignite the imagination in physically spell-binding and boundary pushing ways.
Performance highlights include residencies at the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles -Nighthawks a Film Noir Circus, TED Talk at USC, PBS, Cirque-Cracker with the Phoenix Symphony and Cirque Broadway with the Baltimore Symphony. Tableaux has been seen atnumerous dance/circus festivals including at LATC, UCLA’s Fowler Museum, VIVA Fest in Las Vegas and was accepted into the 2017 American Dance Abroad Pitch Book.
