Panelists include director of the Meyerhold Theatre Center Katya Alekseenko and Vyacheslav ‘Sava’ Chebotar, director of One Day We Will All Be Happy. A discussion about the Moscow theatre scene moderated by local arts critic and Golden Mask Festival veteran Robert Avila of KQED.
Sava Cebotari has worked for many years as a director, producer and actor. He is currently a theatre director at Meyerhold Theatre Center in Moscow. The theatrical works he has directed there include Checkhov’s The Cherry Orchard and Platanov’s The First Meeting as well as full staged productions of Illusions, The Nineties and King Richard the Third.
Theatre awards include One Day We Will All Be Happy, Grand Prix and Happiness for M@rt. Contact – 2015, Grand Prix for One, Two, Three – 2013, Live Faces – 2013 and Best Duet Award for Kolyada-Plays – 2013.
Sava was also a participant at the RUSSIAN CASE program and in the Russian Performing Arts Festival and National Theatre Award GOLDEN MASK – 2015.
Sava is also a teacher at the Moscow Art Theatre School.
Katya Alekseenko has degrees in performing arts management and classical music. Prior to becoming the director of the Meyrhold Theatre Center she was the director of Moscow’s Dance agency Tsekh and the independent venue Aktovy Zal.
Robert Avila is a San Francisco-based arts writer who has covered theater, dance and performance for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, American Theatre and other publications. He also writes regularly at povertyartsjournal.com.
