Shifts in Consciousness embarks on the creative journey of altering mainstream perceptions of oppressed people. The hope of this production is to enable viewers to think more critically and empathetically about injustice and the sufferings of an emerging generation. This production is unique in its engagement with audience members in a community circle after the production. Shifts in Consciousnesses is inspired by audre lorde who teach us "When we dare to be powerful, to use our strength in the service of our vision, then it becomes less and less important whether we are afraid."
Miriam Araya is dedicated to achieving social justice. She graduated from California State University East Bay with her BS in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. Miriam then continued her education and received her Masters degree in Justice Studies from San Jose State University. She is currently working on creating art that transcends her ideas about love, community, justice and equality.
