Abhinaya Dance Company presents Bharatanatyam, a classical dances nurtured in the temples of South India. Through intricate rhythm, and a unique language of gestures, the dance presents vivid stories from Hindu mythology. Two young dancers from our Junior dance Company will present pieces worshipping the Goddess and seeking her grace.

"Lieder for Two" is a site-specific work created for The San Francisco International Arts Festival. As movement and dance spaces have been put on hold, the dancers in the Eucalyptus Grove have a surrealist awakening; Performing for an audience after much absence and, in turn, seeing another dancer in their space. Like birds in a mating dance discovering their own mirrored similarities and differences in another body, the boundary between performance and connection breaks apart. What is instead present is a deep need to communicate more primal needs and be understood by another creature.

"He Wants to Run" is about a guy who hates running and dogs and how I ended up running with my neighbor's dog for 13 years. The piece has been labeled a beautiful meditation on living and dying as told through the story of a man running with a dog.
