JL Stiles and Doug Ellington

JL Stiles and Doug Ellington, longtime compadres in music will offer original songs and some early jazz, featuring the fingerstyle ragtime guitar and voice of Stiles and the magical trumpeting of Ellington along with some sweet harmonies. Doug is the great nephew of Duke and, like Duke, has a very broad diversity to his playing and writing, and make no mistake, he will tear the roof off the of the place. Stiles songs have old souls but takes it often surprising directions on his 6 and 12-string guitars where he creates a complete sound a la the old ragtime maestros with a single guitar. These two have toured together and played for years in this format.

Artist Biographies

JL Stiles

A ragtime fingerpicker who attracts attention for his videos of songs by maestros like Blind Blake and Mississippi John Hurt and other surprising covers, Stiles' most valuable  gems come with his own songs which go straight for the heart and stray from heavy rock to psychedlic to intimate solo acoustic with every part played on one guitar.  Stiles is a rare story of a journeyman who left the world of mathematics in New Orleans to a world of music, taking him to South and Central America, Europe and Asia and releasing a large catalog of original material.

Doug Ellington

Doug Ellington blends traditional jazz improvisation with modern funk, soul, and world music, creating a marriage of many different cultures with driving rhythms and catchy melodies.  Doug's great uncle is the great Duke and the pedigree was not lost on him as he not only tears the roof off buildings with his soaring trumpet but has a unique vision musically, as expressed in his group, New Urban Groove, and in his various collaborations.
