From Seoul to Buenos Aires: The New Tango

Experience the world premiere of new works by Latin Grammy–nominated maestro Ramiro Boero, one of today’s foremost tango musicians, and Sumi Lee, well-known Bay Area tango pianist, featuring compositions that celebrate Lee’s Korean heritage alongside Boero’s innovative new pieces, including original vocal works. Performing as the Lee–Boero Tango Duo, they fuse classical depth, tango’s irresistible rhythms, jazz freedom, and compelling storytelling. The program also showcases iconic Argentine masters alongside Sumi’s creations, offering a vibrant cross-cultural journey. With intricate arrangements, expressive melodies, and electrifying interplay among piano, bandoneon, and voice, this performance promises to captivate and move every audience member.

Golden Gate Int’l Artists (GGIA)

Founded in 2017 by Artistic Director Sumi Lee Levy, Golden Gate Int’l Artists (GGIA) is a San Francisco Bay Area–based presenter dedicated to advancing Argentine tango and folkloric music through performance, education, and international collaboration. From 2017 to 2026, GGIA has produced concerts, workshops, albums, and lectures featuring both renowned maestros and emerging artists, with a strong focus on contemporary tango compositions

Artist Biographies

Sumi Lee

Sumi Lee is a classically trained pianist with a Master’s in Music and Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has worked with numerous Bay Area opera companies, choruses, and K-8 schools. She is also a trained tango pianist from La Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce in Buenos Aires. She has performed with renowned tango maestros and toured the U.S., South Korea, and Canada. A recipient of multiple grants. She recently released two contemporary tango albums: “San Francisco - Buenos Aires (2025) and El gaucho perdido (2025)”. And has been producing tango concerts. She also founded Golden Gate Int’l Artists to support diverse musicians. She had served on the MTAC San Francisco board for a decade.

Ramiro Boero

Ramiro Boero is an Argentine bandoneon player, arranger, and composer from Buenos Aires. He has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras, including the Madrid Symphony, the Argentine National Symphony, and the Montevideo Philharmonic. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with tango legends such as Víctor Lavallén, Leopoldo Federico, and Rubén Juárez. He has played in renowned ensembles like Sexteto Mayor, Color Tango, and Orquesta El Arranque, earning two Carlos Gardel Awards and a Latin Grammy nomination. A dedicated educator, he teaches at the prestigious La Orquesta Escuela de Tango, Emilio Balcarce, and Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda.
