Request for Proposals

As part of the San Francisco State University’s Associated Students (AS) 2022 RHYTHMS Music Festival on FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2022, AS is seeking proposals from Bay Area artists for interactive art installations to feature at the event, with a stipend being offered of up to $3,000 for a full conceptual design, construction and implementation/installation.

The goal of the project should be to provide distinctive, colorful and fun structures, projections and / or other physical objects that attendees can appreciate and interact with visually, conceptually and physically (i.e. photo opportunities).

Installation Guidelines:

AS can provide up to 5 moveable walls.  Each wall is 4ft x 8ft. 

AS will place and stabilize the walls based on the artist’s floorplan.  AS will need a complete plan for composition of the installations and their placement for their special event fire permitting process.

AS will provide flame retardant paint in the color(s) of the artist’s choosing.  Artists will consult with AS about paint quantities required. Onsite painting can be outside, 20 feet away from the building. Painting is not allowed inside. The painting crew is responsible for using appropriate protective measures for the ground and surrounding buildings, paying special attention to wind if using spray or aerosol based paints. In addition, they are expected to do a complete clean up, leaving no traces of the project.

Lighting is available: a selection of LED uplights (Chauvet Freedom Strip, X6), LED par can (X6), ETC Source 4 Theatrical (X5)

Hanging Items in the Annex: AS does not have the capability to hang items over the main floor. The facility is not designed to take any additional load, beyond what is installed. This goes for the outside between the two buildings. No attachment points. If the artist provides truss towers, this can be accomplished. For the selected project, the Event & Technical Services Manager will work with the artist and/or truss/rigging vendor to answer any venue capability questions.

Load In and installation: Wednesday - Friday May 4 – 6 (Times To be determined)

Load Out and de-installation: Saturday May 7 (Times To be determined)
