Baroque Dancing in PlaceIn this gentle dance class we will examine the principles of harmonious movement as described in French, English, Spanish and Italian dance manuscripts from the 17th and 18th centuries. This is an active movement class that incorporates conversations about history and musicality while we decipher steps from the original notated dances of the Baroque era including the Minuet, Chaconne, Bourée, Gigue and more. We will be lighthearted but devoted as we uncover the dramatic meaning within the dances originally intended for theatrical, court, and social occasions. We will make room for individual exploration toward easefull movement using a somatic approach to this graceful dancing style. This is a multi-level, low impact class suitable for beginners and experienced dancers of all ages. This month the focus will be on 18th century Italian dances with a theatrical and commedia style like the ones we will perform in our performance at SFIAF, "Pulcinella's Dream".
