Get ready for Tango Night -- This is not your mother’s tango! In this groundbreaking performance, Tango Con*Fusión, San Francisco’s all women company, dances to original music composed by Charles Gorzynski and his Redwood Tango Ensemble. Both groups define tango as the backbone of their work while pushing traditional boundaries to take the genre into a whole new experience. Together they entertain, surprise and ignite passion. Following the performance portion of the concert, the live music continues. Audience members are invited to stay for a “milonga,” a traditional Argentine Tango dance to socialize with friends and meet and perhaps dance with the members of Tango Con*Fusión.
Redwood Tango Ensemble is a contemporary tango sextet from Oakland, California. Led by composer and bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski, the ensemble has developed a signature style and sound within the world of tango composition, writing honest and imaginative music that bends conventional notions of genre and musical identity. RTE is a tango group in its lifeblood, and its sound and sensibility also reach into new music, chamber music, and modern jazz.
