Production Details

Freddie Vs. Elvis
Freddie vs. Elvis are two abstract dances that use the music of Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Elvis Presley as backdrops to create a series of dances that are influenced by iconic imagery, pop culture and collective memory. In part one, Landini uses the isolated vocals of Freddie Mercury, to deconstruct Queen’s iconic songs into plotless ballets that are inspired by queer men during the AIDS pandemic. In part two, Elvis Presley karaoke songs (with live singers) become elaborate movement explorations that might or might not have something to do with Elvis’ music while channeling the Las Vegas glamor of the 1970's.

Joe Landini
Joe Landini has been making dances in the Bay Area for 30 years and founded SAFEhouse Arts in 2007. His work has been seen in Laguna Beach, Sacramento, Marin, Mexico City, Santa Fe and London.
