San Francisco, September 27, 2021: San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) is pleased to re-introduce classical music to the Festival program. Classical music had become an increasing part of the SFIAF repertoire during the expansion years from 2015-2019, but was cut with the rest of the Festival program when COVID-19 resulted in the cancellation of all public events in March 2020. As SFIAF has been among the leaders in the arts community working to reopen the industry, so we have included classical music in the line-up with prominent billing as one of the season's opening concerts.

  • Strings will be front and center at a lunchtime recital program on Saturday October 23 at noon featuring the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble and Chamber Music Society of San Francisco. The program will feature works by Zoltán Kodály, Ernst von Dohnanyi and Ludvig van Beethoven. The lunchtime concert on Sunday October 24 will feature Diana Strong's fusion ensemble, Wind Weavers.

  • Later on Saturday afternoon,14-year old soloist Serena Fan, will open a triple bill concert led by three women violinists with J.S. Bach's Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor. Fan's live interpretation is the inspiration for a dance piece by Alyce Finwall prior to performances led by Briana di Mara and Hannah Glass with their respective ensembles La Zuli and Manos Lindas.

  • Finally, one of the Festival's closing options (and an opportunity to raise a {distanced} glass in cheer) will include a live rendition of a program originally initiated by Ars Minerva online during the lock-down. Artistic director, Céline Ricci presents a powerful lineup of opera soloists as part of the Cocktails and Chit Chat series.

  • As always, A FESTIVAL PASS is the most economical way to see multiple concerts at the Festival.
